About Saving Old Games

Saving Old Games is my project for old PC games that no longer run properly on modern Windows. I want to get them working again and make them more comfortable to play.

How it started

The idea started when I bought Firewatch and Corsairs on GOG. When I tried to play them, I found that they barely worked properly on my setup.

At first, I just wanted to fix them for myself. Then I realised that I could share the patches with other players facing the same problems. That became the idea behind Saving Old Games.

Why old games?

Sometimes you install a game you remember, try to start it, and nothing happens. Or it opens to a black screen, crashes, or runs so differently on newer hardware that playing it becomes a struggle. The game is still there, but getting it to work can take longer than playing it.

That is where I want to help: by finding what has broken and making a patch, so returning to a game does not mean spending an evening searching for workarounds.

Getting them working — and making them easier to play

The first priority is compatibility: getting the game to start, fixing crashes and dealing with problems caused by newer Windows versions or hardware.

Beyond that, I want to add useful improvements where they make sense: support for modern resolutions, better mouse and keyboard behaviour, convenient display options, and small interface changes that remove unnecessary friction. The exact changes will depend on the game and what can be done.

I want to keep the character of each game. These improvements should make it easier to enjoy the original, while preserving the things that made it worth coming back to.

What you will find on this site

Each game has its own page with a description of the work, screenshots, installation instructions and the latest available patch. The Changes tab collects related news, with details about individual releases.

I will also use the updates to share progress, explain fixes and describe any remaining limitations, so you can check what a patch does before installing it.
